Twitter is useful. I said it. I wasn't always in the belief that it was. In fact, I used to explain Twitter as "Facebook minus everything cool besides status updates". But it's so much better than just that. I have found so much use in it. While I don't always have something extremely interesting to say, people that I am following do. PR professionals give great advice, PR organizations give job openings, clubs give updates, and celebrities tweet about their amazing lives. Among my favorite people/organizations that I follow are Big Shoes Network, Perez Hilton, Sheena Carey, MarquetteU, and Chelsea Handler from Chelsea Lately. Big Shoes Network and Sheena Carey are both very useful in finding job connections, so I will continue to follow them. MarquetteU lets me know of things that I would otherwise not know about that is happening at Marquette so I will continue to follow that as well. Since I love celebrity gossip, Perez Hilton always keeps me satisfied. Finally, Chelsea's tweets are hilarious and always make me laugh. I don't think I will follow MediaPost anymore because they tweet waaay too much about things that does not always interest me.
Something that I learned during my tweeting experience was all of the lingo. I understand "retweet" and "trending" now. The Twitter for College Students taught me that there are actually URL-shortening services online. That just amazes me.
My client, The Betty Brinn Children's Museum, could use Twitter to keep their members and frequent visitors updated on all of their upcoming events. They can also get direct feedback on those events from their audience. Twitter is definitely something that will be in their future.
